A dot on a map... Jun 16, 2002

How in the world could I possibly begin to tell you about the past few days and do so in the very short time that I currently have? In less than an hour, Amanda and I will be sitting down to a wonderful, traditional English breakfast (or, as Amanda insists - a "Scottish" breakfast) before beginning both our last day on the Shetland Islands as well as with one another. In this limited time, I could try to tell you about the ferry ride over and how I was personally responsible for altering the course of the large ferry that carrried us across the North Sea last Thursday night. Or, perhaps you might care to hear the response of the Shetland Island's Coast Guard District Manager as I approached him with my laptop open to inquire if he would agree to take Amanda and I on an aerial tour of the Islands on their resuce helicopter that holds the world's record for most individuals saved at sea in one endeavor. As both of the aforementioned would make excellent topics in this limited time that I have, to do so, I would have to fail to share with you the experience we have shared at two extremely and delightful hotels, and the new-found "friends" we have met and the invitation they extended to us to return to this oasis in the North Atlantic for a festival that is famous world round. In addition, I'm sure I could write a book on just the meals we have been so very fortunate to have, often accompanied by wonderful stories, laughter, and yes, even my singing for a lovely group of guest at the same hotel where I am now. The answer to the question poised at the beginning of this journal is simply that to attempt to share with you all that has transpired in the last few days in the short time that I find myself with would be impossible. So, with that realization, I can only hope that you will return in few days, after which I will have had the time to share all of the above with you in much more detail. So, with the aroma of my pancakes filling the room in which I now lie, I shall say farewell for now. x
