Distant Places, Familiar Faces... May 28, 2003

I'm sure it will be an evening of coversation, chess, music and laughter. I won't go into too much detail at the moment, rather I will pick up some flowers, beer, and ice cream for their grandaughter and update the days events later. Until then, I thought I'd share a series of email with you that have been exchanged between a man in the northern reaches of Norway who has offered to be my "tour-guide". I find the sequence of letters to be quite enjoyable to read. Perhaps you will as well...

Dear Tom Hall You will get an unforgettable trip if you do as you tell me. I will follow your web site. It is possible but hard to use only two days from Alesund to Amsterdam. Have nice holiday! Regards from Asbjorn

Your letter made me smile, thank you for the effort to help me. Alesund seems like a delightful destination. I am at an internet cafe with a map of Norway in front of me. I will leave Saturday from Hamburg to arrive in Olso by car on June 1. I will leave Oslo on Tuesday morning and drive to Bergen. On June 5 I will leave Bergen and travel toward Sogndal to arrive on June 6 in Stryn. June 7 I will drive to Alesund and perhaps we could spend June 8 together. I would then need to drive from Alesund to Amsterdam in two days. Is this scheudle too much?
